This week you are going to be learning the spelling rules for

 dge   ge  and  g  which can all make the j sound.

In English the letter j is never used to end the spelling of a word, it is usually used before u, o or a.

So, when you hear the j sound you need to know that
after the short vowel sounds a,e,i,o,u we use: dge
but after any other sound we use ge
and before y,i or e we use: g.

c is tricky too because it also changes with y, i and e
and makes a s sound.

Monday

First, read these words:

age     huge     change    charge     bulge

Then, practise writing these words using look, cover, spell, check:

stage     village    courage     large     orange

Finally,  write and illustrate them in a sentence in your busy book. 

Wednesday

The g - j when it comes before e, i or y

First, read these words:

gem     giant     giraffe     energy     gymnastics

 Then, practise writing these words using look, cover, spell, check:

page     stage     gentle     germs    magic

Finally, read then look, cover, spell, check this sentence:

I like to do magic tricks.

Thursday

The c - s  before e,i,y rule

Watch the video before you complete the task.

First, read these words:

race     ice     cell     city    fancy

 Then, practise writing these words using look, cover, spell, check:

face     mice      price     rice     circle

Finally,  write and illustrate them in a sentence in your busy book. 

Friday

In your busy book complete these words by adding dge or ge to the end of each word.

 Remember- dge comes after a e i o u and ge comes after any other sound.
