Taste-it Tuesday

Hello everyone smiley

Today we are going to be talking about goldfish. Do you remember our pet goldfish in Nursery?

We have 2 fish, Lucy Locket and Cookie. George, the caretaker, has been feeding and looking after the fish while we have been away from school.

Language and Literacy

Encourage your child to say a few short sentences about our goldfish by asking them simple questions:

"Where does the fish live?"   Child says, "tank" or "water".    "Yes, the fish lives in water in a tank."

"Can the fish run?"                 Child says, "No, swim".               "Yes, the fish swim in water."

"What does the fish eat?"

"Can you remember the crocodile and diver toys in the tank?"

Mini Maths

Use pieces of carrot, paper or uncooked pasta as 'pretend fish' to count.

Ask your child to give you a select number of fish eg. "give me 3 fish".

Put back in the middle. Try again with a new number eg. "give me 6 fish".

Let your child be the teacher and ask you for a certain number of 'fish' (tell them it must be less than 10).

Then your child must count to check that you counted correctly.

Challenge- Count the fish in the bowls and say the total number.

This will be difficult as the image is small and cannot be moved, as the child counts.

If your child makes simple mistakes counting the large amounts, explain why this is difficult and count the bowls with the smaller number of fish.

Today is 'Taste-it Tuesday' and here is a recipe for carrot fries, as pet rabbits love carrots!

This recipe makes enough for 4-5 people and takes 25 min to cook in the oven.

Ingredients:

  • 6-8 medium carrots (about 1 pound)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Recipe:

  • Adult to peel and cut the carrots to a similar size so they bake evenly.
  • Children can coat the carrots with olive oil by tossing them around in a bowl.
  • Sprinkle with a little salt.
  • Spread the carrots out so they aren’t overlapping. You may need to use a second oven tray if needed to achieve this.
  • Serve with a dip such as ketchup, mayonnaise or garlic/ herb dip.

Storytime

I hope you enjoy today's story about a little boy and his pet fish, Norman.
