Curriculum Sticky Knowledge

The sticky knowledge is the essential vocabulary that we want our children to learn during pre-teaching. We use the ‘STAR’ approach to increase vocabulary attainment:

 

Teachers select the really useful vocabulary that is core to the topic

 

Teachers teach the selected vocabulary in a structured manner, [by using symbols, phonology, semantics, sentences, actions, songs, a working word wall and a word pot]

 

Teachers activate the meaning by using the words in context

 

Teachers review the taught words to ensure they are retained
