Maths Time
This week, at Maths Time, we are going to solve problems, using our addition and subtraction skills.
Today, you need your addition brains switched on, to help you solve each problem.
We have done the first one for you.
There are 7 giraffes eating yummy leaves. 3 more come over to join. How many giraffes are there now?
To help us find the answer, we are going to draw the two different amounts of animals from the problem. So, first, we will need 7 giraffes, and then 3 more, like this:
Then, we count how many giraffes there are altogether. So, the answer to the problem is 10.
The addition sum to this problem would be 7+3= 10.
Now, its your turn.
1. 4 hippos are splashing in the mud. 2 more come over to join. How many hippos are there now?
2. 5 birds are sitting in a tree. 3 more fly down to join them. How many birds are in the tree?
3. A herd of 10 elephants join up with a herd of 5 elephants. How many elephants are there now?
4. 11 ostriches run through the desert. They join up with a group of 7 ostriches. How many ostriches are there now?
Story Time
Today's story is called 'The Little Red Hen.' The hen wants to make some bread, but she needs some help from her friends. I wonder if they will want to help their friend. What would you do if your friends did not want to help you? Click on the video below to listen to this fantastic story.
Wow, you have done some spectacular busy work today.
We hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
