So, we need to add together 6p and 3p, to find the total cost. We will use a number line to help us find the answer . First, we circle the first number (6p), like this:

Then, we look at the second number (3p), and jump forwards this many spaces, like this:

The number it lands on, is the answer to the problem. So, 6p + 3p = 9p  .
