English

Today your task is to match some of the words from the story you have been reading to their meanings, then, write a new sentence using each word. Some examples have been done for you to help.

Go to pages 11 and 12 of the Talk4Writing booklet we have been using by clicking on the 'Magical Box' below then complete these tasks in your busy book.

Tips and things to remember when trying to work out what a word means:

  • Look at the parts of a sentence before and after a new word. Is the word being used as a noun, verb or adjective? This could give you a clue to what it means.
  • Break the word down. Do any parts of the word look familiar to you?
  • Look for root words that you know already.
  • For this task you could leave the trickiest words until last and see which meaning are left to give you a clue.

Geography

Recently you've learned about continents and oceans of the world.

You already know a lot about habitats and food chains. So, your task today is to do some research and find one animal that lives on each continent and write about how the animal is adapted to live in that place- what special things can that animal do or what does it have that allows it to live happily and healthily?

For example:

A Red Kangaroo

A Kangaroo lives on the continent of Australia.
Australia has big open areas, kangaroos have large feet to jump large distances and travel through their habitat with ease. Australia is hot and dry most of the time, red kangaroos have super kidneys that help them to store a lot of water which keeps them healthy during dry seasons. Kangaroos have a special way of breathing which can cool down their body and brain.
