Wiggle Wednesday

Good morning everybodysmiley

This week we have been reading about Jasper and Jack and their beanstalks.

Here is a clip of a real beanstalk seed growing. The photographer filmed the seed every day and then joined the film together. He then played the film at a faster speed.

It took the plant 25 days to grow but we can watch it grow in just 3 minutes. (You will need to talk to the children to explain this fully and make certain they understand that seeds do not grow in 3 minutes!!!)

Today is Wiggle Wednesday and when you watch the clip of the beanstalk growing (above) it looks a bit like the plant is dancing as it grows!

It has been very sunny recently and the soil was very dry. It started to rain yesterday and many plants, trees and flowers will be very happy. They are now able to 'have a big drink' and suck the water through their roots.

Let's dance to the 'Happy' song:

Mini Maths

It is time to do some counting.

  • Look carefully at the flowers in the clip and count as they appear and then go away.
  • Pause the clip at intervals to do some extra counting of real flowers.
  • Copy the numbers into your 'Busy Book'. (Mum/Dad can help with this so children can trace over and/or copy under your writing).

Language and Literacy/ Storytime

Share the book below, taking time to talk about each of the pictures in the book.

  • Ask the children to tell you what they see in the picture.
  • If they answer with 1 word, you could extend it eg.
    - child says,"dog". You could say, "yes, a brown dog".
  • You could extend their statement into a short sentence eg. - child says,
  • "a big dog". You could say, "yes, the big dog has seeds on his face".
