Set 1 Sounds Lesson

Today, we are going to learn all about the 'u' sound .

 Parents: Look at the pictures below with your child. Say each object name, and ask your child to repeat the words after you.

Parents: Look at the pictures below with your child. Point to one of the pictures, and ask your child whether it is 'u' or 'u-u-umbrella.' Repeat a few times, getting quicker each time.

Now, practice saying these sounds.

Maths Time
Let's start today's Maths activity by counting in 10's all the way to 100.
 Parents: if your child needs support, say the number and ask them to repeat after you.

Now, its time to practice our subtraction skills, so switch your take away brains on. We will do the first one for you, because we are going to show you how to take away using a number line to help you find the answer (it's a little bit different to adding). So, the first sum is 10-4= 

First, we find the first number from the subtraction sum (10) and put a circle around it, like this:

Next, we look at the second number in the subtraction sum (this is the number we want take away) - 4.
Then, we jump backwards this amount of spaces, like this:

The number it lands on, is the answer to your sum. So, 10-4=6
Now, its your turn.
5-2=
8-3=

7-4=
9-5=

Remember: you are taking away, so you must jump backwards!

Story Time

Today's story book is called 'Knights and Dragon's Unite'. Sir Gorrell, the knight, and Aristar, the dragon, don’t like fighting and would rather everyone just got along. So, when they meet one day by chance in the woods, the unlikely friends set out to stop all the silly fighting.
