Thrilling Thursday

Good Morning!

Today it is Thrilling Thursday!

Let's begin with a song which we know!

Miss Polly had a Dolly

This week we are thinking about how your child grows and develops.

Find pictures of your child when they were younger. You can enjoy looking at the pictures together and talk about how your child is different now. You can put the pictures in order of age like this.

You can talk with your child about the pictures. What does your child want to be when they grow up? Why do they want to do that job?

Have a think with them about what your child can’t do now but will be able to do when they are older.

What can they do now but they can’t do when they were younger?

Now for the thrill!

Let's see if your child can do this activity. It is fun and they will  not have been able to do this when they were younger. They will need to balance their bodies!

You need some coloured tape to put on to the floor. You can lay the tape in straight or zig zag lines for your child to walk along like this!

Mini Maths

Can you find 5 small toys and count them with your child? Touch each toy slowly as you count.

Find 5 big toys and count them with your child making sure that each toy is touched as you go along.

Then write the numbers down and make flash cards  or use the cards from Tuesday’s mini-maths.

You can put the toys all together and count them with the number flashcards.

Challenge

When you have done this, take some numbers away, say 2,5,6 – and mix them up. See if your child can put those three numbers back on the number line.

Try again with some different numbers taken away.

Make it easier; Count the toys again with your child slowly. Take just the numbers 1,2,3 and show each number to your child. They can go over the number shape with their finger and repeat the number slowly. Do this a few times if your child wants to.

If they are not ready to look at the numbers, distract your child with something different. They could count lots of 3s in the house. 3 steps, 3 teddies, 3 forks, 3 windows – counting and repeating without the numbers. Make it fun! You can say the numbers slowly, quickly, in a high voice, in a low voice, in a silly voice!
