Literacy

Reading and sharing stories is a fabulous way for children to develop their vocabulary, understanding of the world and their imagination.

It also provides a special time with the adult/ older person reading with them.

In Nursery, we hope to nurture and develop a love of books that will continue throughout our children's lives and is a source of pleasure and as well as learning.

Before children can write, they need to learn to use spoken language to communicate. Later they learn to write down the words they say.

Alongside this children will explore early mark-making, which is a physical/sensory experience and not the same as writing, as they do not yet connect to symbols/ letters to communicate meaning.

However this is an important pre-writing skill.
