Singing number songs will help children to remember the order of the number names:
Saying number names in order and including counting in your everyday experiences at home will have a big impact on children's learning.
Here are some ideas for counting in your routines at home:
- say the numbers as you are going up or down the stairs
- count the people in the room
- count cakes on a plate or sweets in a bowl
You can also count the toys with your child as they play. Count the blue toys. Count the red ones. Count them all together. Show your child how to touch the toy as they count and say the numbers for them to repeat.
As we are putting decorations up in nursery, we can count the decorations too.
