Talking about stories is a great way to develop children's understanding as well as supporting their growing vocabulary.
After listening to a story, ask your child a few simple questions to check understanding, eg.
- can you remember why was the fish late for school?
- what animal frightened the little fish?
- can you remember some of the food the caterpillar ate?
- how did the caterpillar feel after eating all the food?
- what animal frightened Hairy Maclary and his friends?
