Encouraging children to listen carefully will help them to identify the individual sounds of letters when they are learning phonics.

Giving your child simple instructions each day will help to develop listening skills as well as independence.

Explain that you are playing a listening game. Initially simple instructions might be:

  • to go and get their coat or shoes
  • to give something (paper, toy, book) to another person in the house.

If your child struggles to follow instructions, make it easier by repeating it slowly or, if necessary, complete the instruction with your child, repeating the instruction as you do it together.

Singing simple songs and nursery rhymes helps children learn

rhythm and rhyme.

Our songs this week are:

My Teddy Bear | Super Simple Songs

Are You Sleeping, Baby Bear? | Kids Songs | Super Simple Songs

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear Turn Around
