Fun-day Focus

This week we are beginning a new topic about 'Houses and Homes'.

Make-it Monday

Today we will be learning to draw a simple house using straight lines.

Copy the demonstration below, talking about the different parts of the house, such as the roof, door, walls, windows, chimney etc.

Taste-it Tuesday

Today we will be making cupcakes and filling Nursery (and your homes) with the lovely smell of baking.

You will need:

Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4.

Line a cupcake tin with 10 cases.

To make the cupcakes:

  • Tip the butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking powder and milk into a large mixing bowl and beat with either a hand whisk or electric mixer until smooth, pale and combined.
  • Divide the mixture between the cases.
  • Bake for 15 mins until golden brown (and a skewer inserted in the middle of a cake comes out clean).
  • Leave on a wire rack to cool.
  • Decorate with icing sugar or cream (optional).

Wiggle Wednesday

Moving to music is good fun and improves children's physical skills as they develop balance and coordination.

  • The first clip encourages children to move freely and respond creatively to the music, with their own ideas for movement.
  • The second clip provides children with the challenge of copying the actions shown on screen.

Thrilling Thursday

Today our thrill is very BIG! We will find big blocks to build a house together. We will take turns to put the blocks together. At home, you could use boxes or cushions to take turns to put things together to make a house.

Talk about the size. Talk about how strong the house is. What about the windows and door? Who is the house for?

After building the house, your child enjoy playing in it with other toys. They can help to tidy up later in the day. In nursery, we sing a song when it's time to tidy up. This is another tidy up song.

Funky Friday

Today we will enjoy singing and dancing to a new song about building a house!

gonna build a house.mpg

We can sing a song which we know from nursery too.

Wind The Bobbin Up! Nursery Rhyme for Babies and Toddlers from Sing and Learn.

Try singing this song in different ways using your body to the beat; clap you hands, sway, move up and down and so on. Enjoy the rest of the day!
